When you’re sidelined at work, how do you respond?

Getting sidelined is not uncommon in the corporate space — it has various flavours, most common being not invited to the decision-making meeting, not given the lead ownership, not seen for the role you hold.

Your instinct may be to shrink, silently stew, or plan an exit. But that’s exactly when your leadership is being tested.

Here's a game changing perspective: (warning: some of this will be hard-hitting)

Getting side-lined is under your control and if it's happening it's probably because you didn't do these things - you didn't stand up for yourself, you did not build a strong village of supporters who would hold the space for you, and you probably missed or ignored the early signs.
Stop being the passive participant in your own career and start designing how you show up, communicate, and collaborate. Career is an active sport.
When personal life responsibilities like child care or medical support are becoming career growth constraints, then flip the narrative and make them your non-negotiables. It's your story, write it well.
